More recently, I have thought up a brighter future for Flamenking. The drawing illustrating this post is the cover letter of a story that I have half-done and will be part of a new release for the comic anthology "Killer Toons". The tone will be equally parodic but much more cosmopolitan.

Más recientemente, he ideado un futuro más brillante para Flamenking. El dibujo que ilustra esta entrada es una carta de presentación de una historieta que tengo a medio hacer y que será parte de una nueva entrega para la revista de cómics "Killer Toons". El tono será igualmente paródico pero mucho más cosmopolita.

Origin of a hero / El origen de un héroe

Flamenking's origin dates back to the days I was working for local newspapers. In 2000, I received an offer from "El Día de Córdoba" in order to draw a daily strip about current news.

Among other proposals I did this first strip starring Flamenking. In my opinion, the newspaper director chose the most conventional one, the family strip called "Los Repérez".

However, true to my principles, I did not throw away this joke and finally I used it in Los Repérez strip as you can see.

El origen de Flamenking data de los días en que trabajé para periódicos locales. En 2000, recibí una oferta de "El Día de Córdoba" para que dibujar una tira diaria acerca de noticias de actualidad.

Entre otras propuestas, hice esta primera tira protagonizada por Flamenking. En mi opinión, el director del periódico eligió la más convencional, una tira familiar llamada "Los Repérez".

Sin embargo, fiel a mis principios, no desaproveché este chiste y finalmente lo utilicé en "Los Repérez", tal y como podéis ver.

Amazingly, this strip was censored by the editor, and was never published in the newspaper. On December 10th 2000, the day this strip had to be published, in the section of "Los Repérez" was repeated the same strip corresponding to December 9th.

Sorprendentemente esta tira fue censurada por el editor y nunca fue publicada en el periódico. El 10 de diciembre de 2000, el día que tendría que haber sido publicada, en la sección de "Los Repérez" se repitió la misma tira del día 9 de diciembre.

Hero overexploitation / La sobreexplotación del héroe

Regarding the previous post, I must confess that the Flamenking's image is taken from this one. I drew it as the poster for the "1st. Meeting on Comic in Cordoba" celebrated in 2003. This case is an obvious example of reuse of materials. In the final poster, it only appeared the lower half.

A propósito del la entrada anterior, debo confesar que la imagen de Flamenking está tomada de esta otra. La dibuje como cartel del "1er. Encuentro del Cómic en Córdoba" celebrado en 2003. Un caso obvio de reaprovechamiento de materiales. En el cartel final, sólo se utilizó la mitad inferior.

This did not prevent that I used this image once again for this fake advertising published in the issue #3 of the comic anthology "Killer Toons 2.0".
Esto no impidió que usase de nuevo esta imagen para esta publicidad falsa publicada en el número 3 de la revista de cómics "Killer Toons 2.0".

To top it off, I decided to use this drawing again. In this case in a panel of the story "Constellation" published in the comic anthology "Dos veces breve" as you can see in this post.
Por si fuera poco, decidí utilizar este dibujo otra vez. En este caso en una viñeta de la historia "Constelación", publicada en la revista "Dos veces breve",  tal y como se puede ver en esta entrada.

And the question is: Could and artist live by a single work?
Y la pregunta es: ¿Puede un artista vivir de una sola obra?

Hero to his regret / Héroe a su pesar

For some posts I would like to introduce you an unique character (and particularly local one), Flamenking.

"Flamenquín" is the name of a popular dish in Cordoba, so the pun is obvious.

I conceived it by chance, although later I thought of a glorious future for him.

Durante varias entradas me gustaría presentaros un singular personaje (y especialmente local), Flamenking.

El "flamenquín" es un popular plato en Córdoba, por lo que el juego de palabras resulta obvio.

Lo concebí casi por casualidad, aunque más tardé imaginé un futuro glorioso para él.
