La tira de Fetichinis 9 / Fetticcines' strip 9

Long time since last post of a Fetticcines' special strip. This time I've choosen another icon of the popular culture. I actually like very much Doctor Who series and, therefore, a tribute is deserved.

I would like remind you that these three add to a nice collection previously released. As a reminder, here below I have compiled some of the best.

Anniversary 5 / Aniversario 5

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness; it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity; it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness; it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair; we had everything before us, we had nothing before us; we were all going directly to Heaven, we were all going the other way."
from "A tale of two cities" by Charles Dickens who was born 200 years ago (on 7 February 1812, at Landport in Portsea)

Of automatons and magic / De autómatas y magia

Yesterday, I watched the new film by Martin Scorsese, this magical fable called "Hugo". Despite I do not think this is the excellent movie it's supposed to be, I was captivated by the combination of these elements that one by one I found fascinating, such as magic, innovative art of that pioneer who was George Méliès, the automatons and, though circumstantial in the film, the music of Erik Satie. All of this brought to my mind the following illustration that is part of the story entitled "Of robots and men" which appeared in issue number 5 of the comic anthology "Dos veces Breve" (January, 2005).

In November 2000 a new daily called "El Día de Córdoba" was launched in Cordoba. The direction of the newspaper asked me for the daily cartoon about current affairs. For this occasion I presented a rare notion in the local press (and add in national one), instead the usual cartoon frame I drawn a comic strip starring a family. It had not only the challenge of making a joke about a current issue but also to provide some continuity to the series, through the presence day after day of a group of recurring characters.
The idea came from my admiration for the comics series in the American press and the great popular tradition of families in the Spanish comic (as "Familia Ulises" or "Familia Cebolleta" for example). Thus was born "Los Repérez". This adventure lasted only six months and 152 strips but I think I did a rewarding but also demanding work, even more if you consider that it could only devote part of my time to this task. Rereading ten years later the strips of "Los Repérez" is amazing how many of them still have an unsettling relevance.

This was the sketch I presented to the newspaper management

... and this was one of the first published strips

Translation:
F1:
Sunrise at Reperez's home
F2:
"Grandpa, if you go for your morning walk, please wrap up, it's freezing cold"
"Rrrrmmbl, rrrmmbl"
F3:
"I think the grandpa could remove his helmet, they're going to finish the works in "La Ribera"
"Daugher, you know he's very cautious and public works, what it's said public works, it'll always be a reality"
"You got it, this year they're not going to increase the retirement pension either"

Filthy envy / Envidia cochina

After enjoying the columns of characters by the great Max, I have felt like drawing one with some of those that appear on this blog.
