Visiting "A world without a face" (and 3) / Visitando "Un mundo sin rostro" (y 3)

I am realistic and consider the project "A world without a face" like a long distance race. Obviously, I would like to develop all the ideas that I have about this fictional world but I know this is going to take a lot of time.

To do this I will experiment with new styles and plots at different levels and, perhaps, in future I can count on the participation of artists who give their personal graphical view of this "world without a face".

Soy realista y considero el proyecto de "Un mundo sin rostro" una carrera de fondo. Obviamente, me gustaría desarrollar todas las ideas que tengo sobre este mundo ficticio pero sé que eso va a llevar mucho tiempo. 

Para ello voy a experimentar con nuevos estilos y tramas a diferentes niveles y, quizás, en un futuro pueda contar con la participación de artistas que den su particular visión gráfica de este "mundo sin rostro".

For the moment, as I promised, I am starting through the reedition in this blog of already seen pages in issues 1 to 3 of "Killer Toons 2.0". But there are two important changes in this case: it's an English version and full color one (this was not possible in its paper edition for economic reasons).

I have also adapted format for better viewing on digital devices. I think that is a good decision, new readers can have access to this material including completely unpublished panels.

And now ... it's time to light the flame!

Por el momento, tal y como prometí, voy a empezar por medio de la reedición en este blog de las páginas ya vistas en los números 1 al 3 de "Killer Toons 2.0". Pero hay dos importantes novedades: será una versión en ingles y a todo color (que no fue posible por motivos económicos en su edición en papel). Creo que es una buena decisión, nuevos lectores podrán tener acceso a este material incluyendo viñetas completamente inéditas.

¡Y ahora... es el momento de encender la llama!

It's July, it's hot in Cordoba but this is not an obstacle for Juan Román García. So, a new issue of Fanzipote is on the shelf. On this occasion, the powerful illustration of Miguel Angel Cáceres is the perfect cover for a glorious black and white issue.
Along with the usual series of this new stage of the magazine, Fanzipote is adding fresh and fun collaborations from young and veterans authors of the indie comic scene.

During the first three issues of "Killer Toons 2.0" I published a total of twenty-four pages of the story. After the opening chapter, generically called "A world without a face" I made an interesting approach from an journalistic point of view in a second chapter titled "A fly in the soup".
Although the plot of "A world without a face" may seem not enough original, I think it is particularly interesting how it plays with different narrative points of view, sometimes ironically, sometimes even mixing more than one in the same episode.
Also, I always try to find iconic and evocative elements that represent the oppressive and corrupt environment that has infected the city. Such as the polluted heart pierced by a dagger or the fly skewered by a pin.

Durante los tres primeros números de "Killer Toons 2.0", publiqué un total de veinticuatro páginas de la historia. Después del primer capítulo, genéricamente denominado "Un mundo sin rostro", hice un enfoque interesante desde un punto de vista periodístico en un segundo episodio titulado "Una mosca en la sopa".
Aunque la trama de "Un mundo sin rostro" puede parecer no del todo original, creo que es particularmente interesante la forma en que juega con diferentes puntos de vista narrativos, a veces irónicos, otras incluso mezclando más de uno en el mismo cómic.
Además, siempre trato de encontrar elementos icónicos y evocadores que representen el ambiente opresivo y corrupto que ha infectado a la ciudad. Tales como el corazón contaminado atravesado por una daga o la mosca ensartada por un alfiler.

At least two reasons made difficult the continuity of the series. On the one hand, the long intervals between each issue of "Killer Toons 2.0" (usually a year), on the other the publication of monographic issues from # 4. So, I think the best way to recover and continue "A world without a face" is through a dynamic and affordable way. And this blog is the answer.
Al menos dos razones dificultaron la continuidad de la serie. Por un lado, los largos intervalos entre cada número de "Killer Toons 2.0" (generalmente un año), por otro, la aparición de números monográficos a partir del nº 4. Por lo tanto, creo que la mejor manera de recuperar y continuar "Un mundo sin rostro" es por medio de una forma  dinámica y asequible. Y este blog es la respuesta.

This summer, this blog is going to publish the English version of my comic for "Killer Toons 2.0", "A world without a face". But first of all, I will dedicate three posts as introduction to this project.

Este verano, este blog va a publicar la versión en inglés de mi comic para "Killer Toons 2.0", "Un mundo sin rostro". Pero en primer lugar, voy a dedicar tres entradas como introducción a este proyecto.

In 2009 wan launched the first issue of the comic anthology "Killer Toons 2.0". For that occasion, I made a eight pages comic called "A world without a face". This is a dystopia that tells the creation of a dictatorial system with a messianic touch in a fictitious Midwestern town of the Federated States of America. The starting point of this situation is the so-called "event": the appearance of a giant toxic mushroom in the center of the city, just where a research lab is located.

En 2009 fue lanzado el primer número de la revista de cómics "Killer Toons 2.0". Para esa ocasión, hice un cómic de ocho páginas titulado "Un mundo sin rostro". UMSR es una distopía que narra la creación de un sistema dictatorial con un toque mesiánico en una ciudad ficticia del medio oeste de los Estados Federados de América. El punto de partida de esta situación es el llamado "evento": la aparición de un hongo tóxico gigante en el centro de la ciudad, justo donde estaba situado un laboratorio de investigación.

I was not sure about the most suitable graphic style for the story. I chose a defined lines and flat colors one. Though I think this is not the best choice for a story purporting to be dramatic, I believe that it added a humorous counterpoint that is always rewarding.

No estaba seguro de cuál era el estilo gráfico más adecuado para la historia. Elegí uno de líneas definidas y colores planos. Aunque creo que esta no es la mejor opción para una historia que pretende ser dramática, pienso que añade un contrapunto humorístico que siempre es gratificante.

It seems that Juan Cubo is keeping his enthusiasm and, once again, we can enjoy our monthly date with Fanzipote. In this issue #3, I present a triple contribution. Also you can find, among others, the priceless comics by Zonum, el Juan Perez, Niccolás, Paco Zarco, Claudio F., M.
